The San Francisco Symphony website gives students great visual and audio examples of instruments of the orchestra. First grade has been working diligently on identifying 7 orchestral instruments (from Peter and the Wolf) prior to the closing of our schools. Those instruments include the french horn, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, timpani drum and the strings family. The instruments page would be a great review for them!

Dallas Symphony Orchestra offers a great composers' page. This page could serve as a reinforcement tool for our Peter Tchaikovsky and Nutcracker ballet study (grades 4 and 5). On the Composers' page, students should scroll down to the Romantic period. A short biography and excerpts of Tchaikovsky's music can be found here. There is a pretty cool listening section which include the instruments of the orchestra as well.

Under the music quizzes and games section of the music tech teacher website, you'll find tons of highly educational games that I use as an incentive. The games are excellent sources for reviewing theory, composers, instruments, etc. Rhythm HoopShoot is one of the most popular games for my students in the upper levels. The games on this site serve as a great supplement to what I have been teaching about note value, which can also strengthen basic math skills. Piano memory game is an awesome game for recognizing patterns for younger students!

In the games section of this site, you'll find a "Note Name Game". This game is a wonderful review for students in grades 4 and 5 especially. Classics for Kids also offers a compose your own music, composer timeline, music vocabulary, and instruments of the orchestra section.

Super Looper is my absolute favorite composing website for kids and adults! I have used this in my music enrichment classes. It is a great way to motivate kids to create their own music. The 80's style synthesizer sounds will have the whole family rocking! It works best if you download the app on an iPad or tablet, but it can be done on a laptop as well. Have fun!

Welcome to the Leesylvania Music Page! My name is Vicki Walker and I have been a music specialist at LES since the 2000-2001 school year. I started teaching in Prince William County in 1999. Prior to teaching elementary music, I was a high school choral director in Oklahoma for two years. I received my Bachelor's degree from Grambling State University and my Masters from the University of Central Oklahoma. I am an Army brat born in Germany. I claim Mississippi as my home, although I spent a large portion of my childhood in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. I am also the proud wife of a Marine Veteran. We have a beautiful blended family which includes 5 great kids. In addition to teaching music, I am working on a PhD in Music Education at George Mason University and I play trombone with my church band. My mission is to share my passion for music with my students in hopes that they will fall in love with it too!
